Your rights

If your personal data is being processed by the Danish Immigration Service, you have a number of rights as a data subject.

If you wish to exercise your rights, you should contact the Danish Immigration Service which will be able to provide you with further information about your rights.

Right to be informed

In many instances the Danish Immigration Service is obliged to notify you, when your personal data is collected by the Danish Immigration Service. The types of personal data for specific types of cases are listed on this website, in our application forms and in the folder delivered to you in connection with your application.

Right to rectification (correction)

The law requires the Danish Immigration Service to take reasonable steps to ensure that your personal data is correct and up to date. If we process data that is incorrect, you have the right to get the information rectified. In this case you should contact the Danish Immigration Service and request a rectification. The Danish Immigration Service only has access to rectify data in our own cases and filing systems.

Right to erasure (right to be forgotten)

In special situations, you are entitled to request that information about you is erased prior to the time when the Danish Immigration Service would generally otherwise perform such erasure. However, it should be noted that, as a public authority, the Danish Immigration Service is subject to rules which entail that we in many situations are not permitted to erase the data being processed.

Right to restriction of processing

In certain situations, you are entitled to request that the processing of your personal data is restricted. If you are entitled to have the processing restricted, this means that, in the future, the Danish Immigration Service can only process data – with the exception of storage – with your consent or for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims, for the protection of the rights of another individual or for reasons of important public interest.

Right to object

In certain instances you have the right to object to the Danish Immigration Service’s otherwise lawful processing of your data.

Right to data portability

In certain situations, you are entitled to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and to have those data transmitted from one data controller to another. However, it should be noted that, in most situations, this right will not apply to processing by public authorities, including by the Danish Immigration Service.
