This brief report focuses on the situation for LGBT+ persons in Syria following the fall of the Assad-government.
Since the fall of the Assad-government in December 2024 and the rise to power of the interim HTS-led government, violence against LGBT+ persons has increased. Syrian law criminalises LGBT+ persons through vague “morality” provision, and most LGBT+ Syrians live in hiding or have left the country.
