Uganda – Situation for LGBT persons

This report examines how the Anti-Homosexuality Act (AHA) affects the rights and living conditions of LGBT people in Uganda, beginning with an overview of the law, the offences it creates, and their legal implications.

The report documents patterns in arrests, detentions, and prosecutions, and how such cases are handled in practice. The report assesses available protection and redress mechanisms—law enforcement responses, civil society support, and formal complaint avenues—when individuals face harassment or violence.

Finally, the report offers an analysis of everyday conditions: trends in violence and stigma across urban and rural settings; barriers to healthcare, education, housing, and employment; the operating space of LGBT-rights organisations; and the public outing of LGBT persons via traditional and social media.
