DRC - Socioeconomic conditions in Kinshasa

This brief report describes the socioeconomic conditions for people living in Kinshasa, including for newcomers to the city.

This includes the general security situation in the city as well as the role of social networks, such as ethnic, religious and family networks in the daily life of the residents of the city, the kinois. Moreover, the report considers key socioeconomic indicators in Kinshasa, including poverty, food security, water, electricity and sanitation, housing, employment, education and healthcare services as well as freedom of movement. Finally, the report provides information on the situation for women in Kinshasa with focus on discriminatory laws and practices in the city, gender based violence and sexual abuse as well as the situation for single women without a male support network.
